Grooming/Dressing/Toileting

Long term goal

Annie will participate in daily self-care routines (dressing, grooming, toileting) by completing age-appropriate steps with partial independence and minimal physical support.

Short term goals

  • Dressing: Annie will assist with dressing by independently performing at least two steps (ex: pushing arms through sleeves, pulling pants up to waist) given verbal or visual cues.

  • Fine motor dressing: Using adapted strategies or tools, Annie will practice manipulating fasteners (ex: large buttons, zippers, Velcro) on a dressing board or clothing item with bilateral hand coordination support.

  • Toileting: With a visual schedule, Annie will follow 2–3 steps of a toileting routine (ex: pull pants down, sit on toilet, wipe with help, flush) with verbal prompts.

Assistive Technology

  • Dressing aids: Loops sewn into clothing for pulling pants up, large zipper pulls, and Velcro closures instead of small buttons to compensate for fine-motor difficulty.
