Annie's joyful moments

Long & short term goals

Annie loves her baking time with her Grandma, and it’s her favorite activity. Annie's long term goal will be to follow 2–3 step directions and complete at least two simple helper tasks during classroom cooking or pretend-play cooking activities with no more than one verbal prompt in 80% of opportunities across 3 consecutive data days.  Within 9 weeks, during cooking or pretend-play activities, Annie will follow a 2-step direction with visual or gestural cues in 70% of opportunities across 3 consecutive data days.  Within 18 weeks, Annie will independently choose between at least two activity options (ex: tools, ingredients, roles) using words, pictures, or gestures in 4 out of 5 opportunities across 3 consecutive data days.  Within 27 weeks, Annie will complete at least one helper task (ex: stirring, sprinkling, placing items on a tray) per cooking activity with no more than one physical prompt in 80% of opportunities across 3 consecutive data days.

Assistive Technology

To support Annie's baking hobby, we use the following assistive technology: Visual recipe supports: Laminated step-by-step picture recipes (ex: “1. get bowl, 2. pour, 3. stir”) so she can follow along and anticipate what comes next.   Child-sized, easy-grip cooking tools: Lightweight mixing spoons, bowls with suction bases, and measuring cups with large handles to support her bilateral but less refined hand use.

Fostering independence

These hobbies help Annie's development and bring her joy by encouraging her independence. We are creating opportunities for her to choose between activities and complete tasks with minimal assistance.
